The loved ones of teenagers missing after a tragic inferno at a venue in a Swiss winter destination are enduring an agonising wait for confirmed information and requesting any details about their loved ones via social media.
The inferno devastated the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the mountains of the Valais region, in the small hours of January 1st. Confirmed footage depict the ceiling being engulfed in flames as beverages with sparklers are raised in celebration.
Authorities have warned that it could take an extended period to formally name the those who perished of the tragedy, which killed 40 people and wounded another 119. A spokesperson noted on the latest update that 113 of the injured have been identified, with the process ongoing to locate the other six.
In the interim, relatives have been taking to the internet to plead for information about their loved ones who were present at the venue that fateful night.
The whereabouts of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, a teenager, are still unconfirmed, according to an appeal from his family.
The resident of Lutry near the city, informed a local newspaper that she had returned to Lausanne to check whether he was in the hospital, while his other parent did the equivalent search in Bern, but did not locate him.
"I'm living a nightmare, a horror. The options are finding my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in critical condition. Words cannot describe it," she told the paper.
She explained that some of his friends had been located with injuries covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they endured hell."
The Italian foreign ministry has indicated that a number of of its young people are still unaccounted for.
One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old promising athlete, who hailed from Italy but now residing in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has said that he is dead, without directly referencing the fire, paying tribute to a "young athlete who carried with him dedication and authentic values."
His father, is quoted as saying that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around the new year. An official spokesperson has stated that a formal confirmation of his death is not yet.
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is likewise among the missing. His mother explained that he had been on vacation but had ventured out with friends and found himself at the venue.
"Someone with him told me they fled after the fire started and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a specific moment he they were separated," she said, adding he had been wearing a identifiable gold chain.
One of his teachers commented, "I remember his good nature and positive demeanor, coupled with great maturity. Every time ask if get me a coffee."
