When an 18-year-old makes Real Madrid a historic moment in a pivotal European match against Manchester City, it naturally attracts praise and the spotlight.
In only his maiden start in the tournament - and fifth game for the team - the young midfielder made a strong impression as the 15-time European champions claimed a 3-0 last-16 first-leg lead at the Bernabeu.
The teenager, who also had his Real debut in the qualifying round a month ago with a cameo off the bench at Benfica, then assisted the Madrid side defeat the English champions in Tuesday's return to confirm a last eight berth.
Aged 18 years and 226 days, Pitarch was the team's most youthful starter to begin two matches in the Champions League knockout stages, surpassing Brazil forward Vini Jr's record by a week and a half.
The midfielder is the latest to emerge from the club's academy and is rapidly cementing himself as one of Alvaro Arbeloa's most promising protegees.
He joined Real from Leganes in the summer of 2023, having formerly spent time at Atletico and Getafe's youth teams, and starting out for the Juvenil C team, where he quickly made a positive impact.
Pitarch progressed to the reserve side and it was in a friendly match in which they faced the senior squad, then managed by Arbeloa, where the teenager is said to have caught the attention of the present manager, who took over from the previous coach in the new year.
Spanish media would later describe the moment as "an instant connection," noting he excelled not only for his skill on the ball, but for the vitality, character and determination he brought to the side.
During the summer of 2025, ex-manager Alonso called up Pitarch to train with the first team and gave him minutes in pre-season.
Yet, it was the change in manager that proved the turning point in his development as he came on as a late substitute in each leg against the Portuguese side that led to the clash with Pep Guardiola's team.
"I've dreamed of this every night before going to bed, the first day I started playing the game, every day you go to train and every day you play a match," said the player following his first appearance.
"I've just achieved my ambition with the best team in the world and in the top tournament."
Handed a starting debut in the Spanish league against his former club - where he was for four years after moving from Atleti in 2018 - he has retained his spot for the following four as fitness issues to Bellingham and Ceballos created an opening.
The teenager has taken it with performances that have belied his youth and inexperience.
"He's a extremely fast footballer, and you can see what he's capable of," said Arbeloa. "He's incredibly dynamic, with excellent stamina, work-rate and mobility."
The player's mindset has also impressed his coach.
"His standout trait is his character," added Arbeloa. "He always wants the ball, and even under pressure, he doesn't feel it.
"I realize people are surprised to see him make his debut in a European fixture, but he's playing because I had total trust in him to perform what he usually does.
"Thiago will continue to get opportunities with the main squad. It is delightful to have a player like him."
Born in Fuenlabrada, in the Madrid region, and was raised fully immersed in the local game, moving through local academies before joining the club's famous La Fabrica system.
He holds both Moroccan and Spanish nationality, giving him the choice to play for either country at senior international level.
According to Fifa eligibility rules, players may represent different countries at youth level without being permanently tied, with the ultimate choice only binding once they play in a competitive full international.
He has featured for Spain at underage levels, representing both the U19 and U20 teams, and participated in the 2025 Fifa Under-20 World Cup, where Spain made it to the last eight.
Nevertheless, he has yet to commit to any senior national team, who are watching his rise with keen attention.
In a recent interview, Pitarch confirmed: "I haven't made my final decision so far. Things are positive with the Spanish federation, but I will reach a decision in the near future."
This scenario echoes that of other dual nationality talents such as club colleague Brahim Diaz and Barca star Yamal. While teenage Yamal chose La Roja, Diaz decided to play for Morocco.
At present, his attention is on establishing himself in the Madrid lineup and rewarding Arbeloa's faith.
He featured for 74 minutes in the 2-1 win at the Etihad, which sealed a five-one overall triumph and a quarter-final tie with the German champions.
He was replaced by fellow youth graduate in Manuel Angel underscored Arbeloa's trust in younger players to aid the club chase future success.
Following his notable contributions to date on the Champions League, Pitarch is expected to play a key role in that.
"Arbeloa treats me the identical way. We deal with it very naturally. I attempt not to overanalyze it too much - I have to deserve my minutes on the pitch," he said following the win at Manchester.
