The original stars, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will appear in the latest Hunger Games series film, Sunrise on the Reaping.
It has been confirmed that original actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear once again in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.
An Important Comeback for the Franchise
Lawrence and Hutcherson are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. It is believed their appearance will likely occur in a future-set scene, considering the main film series concluded with their characters married and with children.
This represents the sixth cinematic outing in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a recent book by author Suzanne Collins. It acts as the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Returning to the director's chair is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed nearly all the previous films in the series.
The Storyline and Fresh Faces
The film's narrative are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is portrayed as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.
The supporting roles feature several notable actors in important characters:
- Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes will appear as a earlier incarnation of the menacing President Snow.
Current Projects and Release Timeline
Separately, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
Regarding the filming timeline:
- Principal photography began in the summer of 2025.
- Filming reportedly wrapped in November of the same year.
