Reigning Aryna Sabalenka Secures Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Honors.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight year.
The 27-year-old won four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – which included successfully defending the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth career Grand Slam singles title.
A Season of High Performance
Throughout the year, Sabalenka reached a tour-best nine finals, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The star player also won the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the entire year as the world number one, concluding 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Record-Breaking Achievements
Sabalenka concluded the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and earned a record eleven million pounds in earnings.
She garnered almost 80% of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "help bring women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Additional WTA Award Recipients
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking extended hiatus after the birth of her first child and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko picked up the award after beginning the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and rising to the eighteenth spot.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after securing their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after advancing to five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz won three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third consecutive time.
