The NRL's governing body has announced that athletes who join the “rebel” R360 competition will be barred for 10 years.

The new league, set to start in late 2026, is aiming to attract rugby union and rugby league players with substantial agreements and a condensed fixture list.

Top NRL players have reportedly been approached by R360, which will involve six or eight men's clubs and women's teams based in key urban centers worldwide.

Samoa's the player, who plays for the Warriors in the league, has said he has had negotiations involving the breakaway league.

Papenhuyzen, Zac Lomax, Haas and Gray are also reported to be weighing up offers from R360.

Eight major union countries, including Australia, recently imposed a ban on R360 recruits playing international matches.

“We heard our clubs and we've responded strongly,” said Australian Rugby League Commission chairman V'Landys.

“Sadly, there will continually be entities that try to exploit our game for economic benefit.

“They don't invest in development systems or the development of athletes. They merely capitalize on the efforts of others, endangering athletes of monetary damage while profiting themselves.

“Essentially, they are, imitating the sport.”

The organization is launched by former England World Cup winner Mike Tindall and backed by independent financiers.

Following the possible union prohibitions were revealed last week, it said: “We want to work collaboratively as a component of the global rugby calendar.

“The competition is structured with bespoke schedules for men's and women's teams and we will release all players for global fixtures, as included in their contracts.”

R360 will request authorization for its initiatives from World Rugby, rugby union's regulatory group, at its official gathering in the coming year.
