Preview the Reimagined Classic Journey: A Free Demo for Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined Debuts Soon.

Enthusiasts looking forward to the launch of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined can get a head start too much longer. An exciting demo version will go live on Jan. 7, offering a sizable look into the game's initial chapters. Importantly, any advancement earned within this demo can be imported directly into the complete game upon its eventual release.

More Than a Straightforward Remake: The Thorough Overhaul

This project is a from-scratch re-envisioning of the landmark 2000 role-playing game, initially known as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a distinct departure from other Dragon Quest re-releases, such as the previously launched HD-2D versions, this version adopts a striking 3D art style. The world are designed to resemble intricate model sets, with protagonists sporting a appealing toy-like appearance.

"Considering the 3DS port, the story was still notoriously extended. Therefore, we came to a determination that we wanted to tighten the story, [and] craft an adventure for today's gamers."

Key Gameplay Changes and Updates

Square Enix have introduced several modernizations to update the classic gameplay loop. Among these are:

  • Streamlined Field Battles: Similar to modern role-playing games, weaker enemies can now be dispatched directly on the field eliminating the need for entering a separate turn-based battle sequence.
  • Adjustable Battle Pace: Players can speed up battle sequences to quickly power through less challenging encounters.
  • New Vocation System: A completely new job class was introduced for this remake. Furthermore, characters now have the ability to master a second job, greatly expanding strategic depth.

Such refinements are designed to tackle one of the original title's common criticisms: its considerable playtime. The initial main quest could easily take more than 100 hours to complete. This reimagined edition has been specifically reworked to enhance progression and cut down on perceived bloat.
