The boss of Domino's Pizza Group who proposed the United Kingdom might have reached pizza saturation while expanding the franchise into poultry items has been removed after disagreements with its governing body.
The former CEO is leaving after a brief tenure in the top role, and will be succeeded on an interim basis by the organization's operations head, Frampton, while Domino's seeks a long-term chief.
Rennie, who served at Domino's for a substantial period, had sought to shift the UK's biggest pizza food delivery firm towards poultry-based products, commenting in a recent interview there was not “massive growth” left in the UK's pizza market. He observed poultry was the most rapidly expanding protein in the world.
Reports indicate that there was friction between the CEO and the board over his focus and direction, although Domino's official statement said he was stepping down “through mutual consent”.
In the autumn, the chain introduced its chicken-focused product line – which Rennie described as a “significant new phase” for the group – and is piloting it in 210 outlets in the North West region and the province.
While the firm is still going to roll it out across its almost 1,400 stores in 2026 as scheduled, it considers fried chicken as an addition to its core pizza business.
Bull, the Domino's chairman, commented: “We are confident that there are a series of prospects to boost expansion and profitability in the main pizza segment. We are focused on selecting the right chief executive to direct the careful implementation of that expansion plan.”
In the latest update, the pizza delivery giant, which has a substantial customer base in the British Isles, said transactions declined by 1.5 percent in the latest quarter. In August, it warned that the quick-service industry had “intensified” as it blamed reduced spending in the period before the budget and increasing labor expenses for disappointing revenue and a significant fall in half-year profits.
Rival chains are also experiencing difficulties. Pizza Hut revealed the closure of dozens of outlets a last month, after the business behind its British operations fell into administration.
Adapting to customer preferences towards healthier eating, Domino's has introduced light products, such as its thin-crust range of bakes below 400 calories as well as vegan and gluten-free options. A family-sized pepperoni has 2,311 kcals. A big margherita has over 2,100, while a individual has 909 kcal.
The interim chief has been with the company since the recent past, and had a background at the gambling company a well-known operator. It is thought that she is not seeking to occupy the chief executive role long-term.
She commented: “We have a number of current development and performance initiatives that we will be focused on executing at pace.”
She said these included additional efforts on the company's logistics network and product development, and its loyalty scheme.
The pizza chain is also in need of a full-time chief financial officer until the spring, when Andrea joins from the drinks company a well-known firm. Until then, Richard Snow acts as temporary CFO.
