The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
The forward, with six months left on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be building momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
