JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution Aims to Address the Anime's Biggest Issue

JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution is not entirely an original movie. Instead, the latest film from the JuJutsu Kaisen fantasy saga is a compilation of the series' second installment combined with the initial episodes of its third season, which kicks off the Culling Games arc from the original manga. This makes Execution, which just got a new trailer, the quickest way to see the beginning of the forthcoming season ahead of its 2026 January debut. The feature launches in cinemas in Japan starting November 7, and in North American regions on December 5.

The Culling Games Plot

In the Culling Game arc, Elite sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu makes his entrance into the show and is charged by jujutsu higher-ups to take down his fellow student Yuji Itadori. Their highly anticipated battle takes place for the very first time on the big screen, and if the animation team at the production house have something as special as the two-part Thunderclap episodes waiting in the wings for viewers this festive season, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may prove to be the surprise that fans have anticipated.

The "Thunderclap" Controversy

"Thunderclap episodes" from season 2 is often hailed as among the best moments in animated series lore, in spite of the significant debate in 2023 when the series first premiered. It was reported that the animation team were suffering from tight schedules to the degree, and the broadcast edition that premiered at the time was incomplete and reportedly not what the team initially intended.

The Epic Battle

The scene showcases a heavily anticipated fight between two powerful sorcerers, the King of Curses and the Eight-Handled Sword. It includes unique visual techniques, excellent direction, and intense action. A subsequent Blu-ray release allowed the team to include extra footage to expand the battle. So it was plausible Execution could refine the sequence additionally. However, looking at the new trailer, it's unclear if that battle has been given extra attention. It'd be a letdown if it didn't, because a sequence that grand has to be seen on the biggest screen with the best presentation possible.

Season Two's Achievement

The sophomore season of JuJutsu Kaisen boosted the show to become the top anime of the year, and when the two-part finale were released back to back, it was the topic of conversation for weeks in the anime community. Fans knew about the problems with the production, which made them appreciate what they saw even more. People clamored to see if the Blu-ray, launched in mid-March, would add any additional scenes to the fight or to see if it was polished at all, and were thrilled to see just that, alongside tone adjustments, smoother movement, and altered color palette.

The Movie's Opportunity

But the Blu-ray can only refine what has already been presented in the television version, whereas the film has the opportunity to properly present the moment with further changes and freshly created footage.

A Masterpiece

At present, these pair of installments act as the masterpiece of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be treated as such by Mappa, particularly given the debate they underwent at the time. It's captured the interest of series enthusiasts all over the planet, and the Culling Games is a much-expected plotline of next year. If the production company wants to begin the year strongly, showcase the anime's greatest sequence once again in movie houses with the ultimate presentation we've experienced so far.
