Edwards and O'Neil represent the early candidates in the frame to replace Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Pereira was dismissed on the weekend following the team's 10-match without a victory start to the Premier League campaign.
And Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have historic links to the club - are part of the options to be considered by the Wolves ownership.
The manager is currently at another club, which would create a possible hurdle to his appointment at Molineux.
Nevertheless the ex- Luton Town head coach - who made more than 100 of games for the club during his time as a player - is considered a leading candidate for the position.
The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys support from the Wolves board as they begin the search of appointing a new manager.
O'Neil is additionally emerging as a unexpected candidate, even though he would be a shock appointment considering he was sacked by the club in the previous winter.
