Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Debates Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a new game mode called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but features several notable adjustments:

  • Every squad includes just 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions performed by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives more options for gamers seeking different methods to enjoy the title. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.

Community Responses: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and another details all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Concerns and Player Input

All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, a major grievances is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to remove XP farming from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base compromising halfway, according to forum feedback. Another describes this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
